Centennial Celebration of WWI Armistice, Memorial Day 2018
This past weekend, Kids4vets was honored to join KCPT for "Celebration at the Station", an annual Memorial Day event at Kansas City's Union Station. This was a very important Memorial Day because it recognized both our national holiday, and the centennial of the Armistice that ended World War I. Fittingly, to the south of Union Station sits The National World War I Museum and Monument, one of the most significant memorials to the Great War.
The event included a performance by the Kansas City Symphony, and many activity booths to show support for veterans and their families. Kids4vets hosted a booth with KCPT kids to make an amazing poppy mural. Children and adults of all ages were invited to take part in creating this mural in honor of the poem In Flanders Field. Over the course of the event, we watched the mural grow as individual's added their contributions, resulting in a beautiful work of art. Many thanks to KCPT Kids Director Elizabeth Hansen, my family, and friends for helping make this event a huge success.
