Meet Jessy the Comfort Dog
In this blog, we want to introduce you to a dog named "Jessy", a beautiful golden retriever and a regular supporter of veterans at the Heart of America Stand Down. We first met Jessy at the Stand Down in the fall of 2015, with her amazing handler Jill Kusel. Jessy is part of the Comfort Dog Ministry in Concordia, Missouri, and was trained by St. Paul's Lutheran Church Charities.
Jessy began her service on January 5th, 2014, and helps to bring comfort to those in need. According to her website (yes, you read that correctly...Jessy has a website), a comfort dog is "a friend who brings a calming influence, allowing people to open up their hearts and receive help for what is affecting them". My family looks forward to seeing Jessy at the Heart of America Stand Down in both the spring and fall. And in 2017, the winning classes at Prairie Elementary were treated with a visit by Jessy to their classrooms. What an amazing honor!
